so you are looking to get a tattoo?
Pick your artist carefully. A good tattoo artist should be able to do the fundamentals -linework, shading, placement , saturation of ink, contrast,
if the artist doesn’t have this in his portfolio you are going to regret it in the end.
when looking at his work make sure to pay attention to the outlines of his tattoos they should be smooth and in one stroke. A strong outline of for your tattoo is the best foundation to build your master piece of.
strong outline
contrast brings the light and depth of your tattoo. if you are thinking of getting a black and grey style tattoo or portrait this would be a good time to look at your design and make sure that your artist is able to use
this to capture your image. It should not be overly exposed , a clear picture and in good size is Best. An artist who specialises in dot work would be perfect for a representation there are some stunning examples in dot work to take that contrast to the next level by making a realistic 3D tattoo.
All of us want our tattoos to last and look fresh, so an artist should be able to really pack in the ink without blow outs. What is a blow out? well it’s where they go over the same line or area and the ink bleeds under the skin or it forms a scab. leading to a messy tattoo. a really good saturation will leave pieces of your skin exposed for the tattoo to breathe. not packing enough ink leads to it fading fast. I do have a few examples. of good and bad saturation.
good and bad saturation

brings your tattoo to life, highlighting your focal point by using the contrast and accentuating the darker areas.

Since it’s such a huge factor. I will be focusing on in it in my next article. Diving deep in to the pros and cons of general placement and specialised placement in
